Luisa Manni
Ragusa, my root
I was born in Ragusa in 1988, I still remember my nonstop being active as a child: games, sports, artworks. I could not stop moving. And as I grew, my nature has not changed: I started working and traveling quite early, soon after earning my high school diploma (linguistic school). I learned interior design and empathy in my father’s furniture store, and I worked as a tutor for students in Malta, I learned elegance and patience in Louis Vuitton stores in Milan, I also worked in a prestigious winery in Vittoria, amongst wooden barrels and prestigious wine such as Nero d’Avola, Frappato and Cerasuolo, moreover I worked in farms in Northeastern Australia, and woke up at dawn to pick fruits in farms across Ragusa region. Furthermore, I collaborated with Armani, staying in Brussels while living in Ragusa. And I do not take such difference for granted. As a matter of fact, although my backpack is constantly ready, Ragusa has always been my base. My country and my company, my essence, my root and a reference point to return to.
The Hyblaean rural language
I love life, vines and everything around them: stories, landscapes and the beauty they express: smells, hopes, memories that they hold, while representing hard work as well as feasts. Also thanks to this, I am attending a sommelier course (WSET, level 3). At the same time I love languages, I know, practice and speak them. Spanish (my mother’s family is originally from Venezuela), a proficient level of French and English, thanks to work experience abroad.
But I especially know and speak the language of the Hyblaean Hills, Southeastern Sicily. Speaking the language of my land does not only mean to know the dialect of this region in Sicily. Primarily, it means to speak the direct and familiar language of the local country. Consisting of Mediterranean climate accents, rituals that are preserved across generations and are renewed, by marking the farmers’ days and seasons.
Experience through emotions
I am sure that the diverse language of the Hyblaean Hills will capture you. And this is exactly my mission: to lead you to reveal my land and its treasures. From the inside, in order to really appreciate and experience it. Following your deepest interest. As the rural language is emotional: based on a vocabulary of feelings matching body and nature, taking you to discover their common origins. Thanks to Be Rural I re-discovered, with my hands on the land, the joy of returning to the roots, so I would like to share this emotion with all of you.
